Have you ever stopped to wonder what ingredients are in the expensive creams you put on your face? Get back to nature with these homemade facial recipes: they're all-natural and smell so delicious, you could very well eat them!

Facial mask

Oatmeal mask – for all skin types

Suitable for all skin types, this simple treatment will cleanse and revitalise your skin.

Oatmeal and honeyFrom the fridge:

  • 1 tablespoon of oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon of natural (unflavoured) yoghurt
  • Half a teaspoon of honey

Mix it up:

Combine the yoghurt and oatmeal using your fingers. Run boiling water over a spoon, and then add a few drops of honey to the spoon – this will warm and soften the honey. Stir it into the yoghurt/oatmeal mixture, and then apply the mask to your face and neck. Leave for 10 minutes before removing with a cool face cloth.

Avocado ORANGE mask – for dry skin

This rich mix helps to restore moisture and nourish dry, flaky skin. It also lasts up to two days in the fridge if you have any leftover mixture.

From the fridge:

  • 3 tablespoons of avocado
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 50 ml orange juice
  • A few drops of essential oil, such as chamomile

Mix it up:

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl, blending them together with your hands. Use your fingers to spread a thick layer all over your face and neck, and leave for at least 30 minutes. Rinse off with a warm face cloth.

Banana honey mask – For oily skin

A soothing face mask that smells great, this treatment is ideal for those who want to get rid of blackheads.

From the fridge:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 orange or lemon, or a splash orange juice

Mix it up:

Mash the banana in a bowl and add the honey. Add in a few drops of orange or lemon juice, and apply all over your face and neck. Wait at least 15 minutes before rinsing with a steaming hot face cloth.

Orange mask – for acne

Rich in vitamin C, zinc and antioxidants, this treatment is ideal for acne-prone skin.

From the fridge:

  • 1 small orange, peeled OR 1/5 glass of orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons of green clay powder (such as Fuller's Earth)
  • 1 teaspoon of milk

Mix it up:

Squeeze orange juice into a bowl, and then add the clay powder slowly while mixing gently. Leave the mixture to stand for half an hour before properly stirring. Apply to your face and neck, and leave for 25 minutes before rinsing off with hot water.
