J & M Davidson
The 1967 film "Belle du Jour" is a cinematic classic most memorable for the glamour and innate sexiness of its star, Catherine Deneuve. Fashion house J & M Davidson have looked to her as one of the influences for their range this autumn-winter, along with Diane Keaton's funny and fabulous role as Annie Hall.
The result is a collection not to be missed.
Who are J & M Davidson
Launched in 1984, John and Monique Davidson began with a collection of exclusive, hand-crafted belts but are known today as much for their form-fitting and well-made clothes as for their sumptuous accessories, which now include handbags and small leather goods. With a shop nestled in the uber-trendy hub of Golborne Road, near the world-famous Portobello market, J & M Davidson's clothes are as identifiable for their classy designs as they are for their trends. This new season is no exception. Sometimes quirky, always defined by luxurious fabrics, hand-stitching and perfect tailoring, the duo behind this west London label with a large international following never fails.
The fall 2012 collection
Acidic orange and yellow knitwear is combined with black and grey swing coats, either belted or in collarless, slightly more formal designs. A-line mini skirts, teamed with tartan coats and bags, add a swinging 60s feel to a collection that is wearable today but nods to both Deneuve and Keaton at the same time. Two-toned sweaters combine beautifully with woollen winter shorts — a huge look this season that looks great matched with high-denier tights and ankle boots — while the animal-print trend lives on in the form of a stunning, belted knee-length dress that is as sexy by night as it is appropriate by day. Low-cut backs, boat-collared jackets and sharp injections of colour make this latest collection truly stand out.
And the accessories?
If the clothes in the autumn-winter range aren't for you then the accessories surely will be. Stunning, crocodile-print leather bags can be ordered in a choice of colours including green, classic black or beautiful burgundy. If you're after something that stands out in a crowd, their tartan and leopard-print designs are sure to thrill, as is the "Carnival" red tassle leather bag that is as fabulous as it is functional. The "Astrid" bag is a newcomer to the collection and is available in three different sizes. It is made of extremely soft, two-tone calf leather, nubuck and suede. Not to be missed if you're in the market for a life-long weekend bag is the new edition "Bip" bag available in two different sizes.
