Kym To Play Corrie Legend In Musical
Coronation Street fans will be flocking to Manchester's MEN Arena this May to see one of the show's current stars take on the role of one of the most popular characters in soap history. Kym Marsh, who currently plays Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, will play Elsie Tanner in the musical Street of Dreams which is based on the soap. Elsie was originally played by Pat Phoenix, who died in 1986, and was featured in the TV series when it began in 1960.
Kym will play Tanner in her younger years, while I'd Do Anything winner Jodie Prenger will play an older version of Elsie Tanner, despite the fact that Jodie is actually three years younger than Marsh! Also starring in Street of Dreams will be TV host Paul O'Grady, and the dance numbers will be choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing's Karen Bruce and Olivier Award winner Stephen Mear.
For Kym Marsh this will be a return to music after she has mainly focused on her acting work in the past few years. Kym rose to fame as part of the reality TV pop band Hear'say and had a few solo hits after leaving the band. She was last seen singing on TV in 2010, when she took part in another reality show, Popstar to Operastar on ITV.
