To Sir With Love: Our Favourite TV Teachers

There are many TV shows set in schools, and the teachers are often just as important to the storylines as the students. Some even end up getting closer to their pupils than they really should!

Mr FitzPretty Little Liars

Ezra Fitz in Pretty Little Liars is the ultimate teacher crush. Not only does he give up his teaching career to be with pupil Aria, but he's always willing to help his students with their personal and academic problems. With their exact age gap never confirmed, Mr. Fitz's relationship with Aria has brought controversy to the popular drama series.

Skins

British cult teen show Skins always turns its teachers into comedy characters, whether they're hilariously inept like Doug or insanely strict like Mr. Blood. As with all of Skins' adult characters, the teachers are usually played by famous U.K. stars, including Shane Richie as a drama teacher and Josie Long as a guidance counsellor.

The Demon Headmaster

Anyone who grew up in the 1990s will remember the scariest teacher on TV, The Demon Headmaster. Played by Terrence Hardiman, the headmaster is a hypnotist who has the whole school under his spell, and a plan to take over the world. The BBC TV series followed a group of pupils who discover his secret, and attempt to stop him before it's too late.

Saved By The Bell

Another '90s favourite, but from the other side of the Atlantic, was Saved By The Bell, featuring headteacher Mr Belding. Mr Belding was best known for his catchphrase "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! What is going on here?" which was often heard when he walked in on his students getting up to mischief, but viewers soon discovered he wasn't so well-behaved in his youth and even once mooned the school board!

Glee

One of the most popular teachers on TV today is Will Schuester in Glee, also known as Mr Schue. Although his profession is teaching Spanish, he is much more focussed on his glee club. He doesn't just teach New Directions to sing and dance, but also gets involved himself in his own cheesy style with numbers such as "Gold Digger" and "Thong Song."
