British stars including One Direction, David Beckham and Simon Cowell were among the winners at last night's Teen Choice Awards in America.

2012 has been a great year for British talent in the U.S. with stars such as The Wanted and One Direction among the biggest breakthrough acts in the music charts. Last night's Teen Choice Awards recognised the favourite TV, film, music and sport stars of American teenagers, and it sounds like they will all be asking their parents for holidays to the U.K. as there were many Brits among the winners.

One Direction was the most successful British act, winning all three of the surfboard-shaped awards they were nominated for: Best Love Song, Summer Music Group and Breakout Group. However their Boyband rivals The Wanted weren't so successful, missing out on the four awards they were up for. Other British winners included Simon Cowell for Best Male TV Personality, David Beckham for Best Male Athlete, and Coldplay for Best Rock Song.

The Teen Choice Awards were held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, and celebrities who attended included the hottest teen couple of the moment, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. For Selena, who won Best Group with her band Selena Gomez and the Scene, it was a particularly special day as she also celebrated turning 20.
