Music Stars Celebrate At MOBO Launch Party
It's been a busy period for award nominations, with the Mercury Prize shortlist announced last week, and not one but two huge award shows revealing their nominees yesterday. Earlier in the day MTV announced the list of artists in consideration for their MTV Europe Awards while the evening saw the launch party for the 2012 MOBO Awards.
The MOBOs recognise the best British R&B, jazz, gospel and rap music of the past twelve months and although MOBO stands for Music of Black Origin the performers can be of any ethnicity. Leading the pack this year with five nominations are rapper Plan B (also one of the favourites for the Mercury Prize) and breakthrough singer Emeli Sandé. Other nominees include Labrinth and Rita Ora, who are both up for four awards following the success of their debut albums Electronic Earth and ORA.
The nominations were announced at a party at London's Floridita restaurant attended by many of the nominees, including Tulisa, Stooshe and Rebecca Ferguson. Artists including X Factor star Misha B gave acoustic performances to entertain the guests. However, the line-up of performers has not yet been announced for the award ceremony itself, which takes place in Liverpool on Nov. 3.
